YOUNEEs erstes internationales Album, in Großbritannien veröffentlicht – ein anspruchsvoller Pop-Jazz-Crossover.

True To You markiert ein bedeutendes Kapitel auf YOUNEEs internationalem musikalischem Weg. YOUNEE komponierte sämtliche Musik des Albums. Im Zentrum stehen ihr virtuoses, unverwechselbares Klavierspiel und ihre ausdrucksstarke Stimme. Der britische Produzent und Arrangeur Richard Niles schrieb die englischen Texte zu allen Songs und entwickelte YOUNEEs Kompositionen mit seinen anspruchsvollen Arrangements und seiner Produktion zu einem vielschichtigen Pop-Jazz-Crossover-Sound.

Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen YOUNEE und Richard Niles begann durch eine Vermittlung von Bob James und entwickelte sich zwischen Seoul und London. YOUNEEs eigene Kompositionen, ihr Klavier und ihre Stimme verbinden sich mit Niles’ ausgefeilten Arrangements und dem Spiel herausragender Londoner Session-Musiker wie Gary Husband, Richard Cottle, Robert Rickenberg, Nigel Hitchcock und Derek Watkins sowie dem London Orchestra.

Nach der Veröffentlichung des Albums trat YOUNEE in renommierten Londoner Jazzclubs auf, darunter der Pizza Express Jazz Club, der 606 Club und The Vortex. Außerdem war sie in der traditionsreichen Jazzsendung Jazz Line-Up von BBC Radio 3 zu Gast. Darüber hinaus wurde sie in BBC Woman’s Hour eingeladen, der seit vielen Jahrzehnten bestehenden Radiosendung der BBC, in der bedeutende Frauen des öffentlichen Lebens zu Gast sind. Dort präsentierte YOUNEE ihre Musik und ihr Klavierspiel.

Der Song „Home To You“ erreichte Platz 34 der US-amerikanischen Radio-Single-Charts und sorgte damit für weitere internationale Aufmerksamkeit für YOUNEE und das Album.

Younee’s first international album, released in Britain — a considered meeting of pop and jazz.

True to You is a turning point on her road abroad. Every note of the music is hers. At the centre are her piano — virtuoso, and unlike anyone else’s — and a voice of real presence. The American producer and arranger Richard Niles wrote the English lyrics for every song, and from her compositions drew a layered pop-jazz sound: ambitious, finished, and entirely of the room in which it was made.

They were introduced through Bob James. The work then ran between Seoul and London. Her writing, her piano and her voice sit inside Niles’s arrangements, and beside a London band of top-notch musicians: Gary Husband, Richard Cottle, Robert Rickenberg, Nigel Hitchcock and Derek Watkins, with the strings of the London Orchestra.

After the album was released, Younee performed in the UK’s iconic jazz venues — Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Club, The Vortex, The Stables Wavenden and others.

Younee was a guest on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line-Up, and on BBC Radio 4’s long-standing Woman’s Hour, a landmark programme that explores the world through the voices and perspectives of influential women from across public life. On the programme Younee presented her music, and played the piano.

Home to You reached no. 34 on the American radio singles chart, carrying Younee’s name further into the international spotlight.

「True to You」 — Younee의 첫 번째 해외 앨범

Younee가 영국에서 발표한 첫 번째 해외 앨범. Pop과 Jazz가 세련되게 만나는 작품이다.

「True to You」는 Younee가 세계 무대로 나아가는 여정에서 중요한 전환점이 된 앨범이다. 수록된 모든 곡의 음악은 Younee 자신에게서 시작됐다. 앨범의 중심에는 누구와도 닮지 않은 독보적인 피아노 연주와 깊은 존재감을 지닌 그녀의 목소리가 있다.

모든 곡의 영어 가사는 미국의 프로듀서이자 편곡가인 Richard Niles가 맡았다. 그는 Younee의 작곡을 바탕으로 섬세하고 입체적인 Pop-Jazz 사운드를 만들어냈다. 세련되게 완성된 음악이면서도, 이 앨범만의 고유한 분위기와 색채를 온전히 간직하고 있다.

Richard Niles와의 인연은 Bob James를 통해 시작됐다. 이후 작업은 서울과 런던을 오가며 진행됐다. Younee의 작곡과 피아노, 그리고 그녀의 목소리는 Niles의 정교한 편곡 안에 자연스럽게 어우러졌으며, Gary Husband, Richard Cottle, Robert Rickenberg, Nigel Hitchcock, Derek Watkins 등 런던 최고의 연주자들과 함께했다. 여기에 London Orchestra의 현악 사운드가 더해져 앨범의 음악적 깊이를 완성했다.

앨범 발표 이후 Younee는 영국의 대표적인 Jazz 무대에 올랐다. Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Club, The Vortex, The Stables Wavendon 등 영국을 대표하는 공연장에서 자신의 음악을 선보였다.

Younee는 BBC Radio 3의 「Jazz Line-Up」에 게스트로 출연했으며, BBC Radio 4의 오랜 전통을 자랑하는 「Woman’s Hour」에도 초대됐다. 「Woman’s Hour」는 사회 각 분야에서 영향력 있는 여성들의 목소리와 시선을 통해 동시대의 다양한 이야기를 조명해온 BBC의 대표적인 프로그램이다. Younee는 이 방송에서 자신의 음악을 소개하고 직접 피아노를 연주했다.

수록곡 “Home to You”는 미국 라디오 싱글 차트에서 34위에 올랐으며, Younee의 이름을 국제 무대에 한층 더 널리 알리는 계기가 되었다.
